James Potter doesn't want to talk about it. ([info]jamesopotter) wrote,

I think I need a new pair of glasses. These ones won't sit straight on my face anymore.

Private to Gaius.

I'm not trying to be ridiculous, I have an honest question I can't ask anyone else. Is it bad that I'm not particularly sad about Rodolphus Lestrange? I mean, I'm pretty sure he tried to kill me at least once. Him or his French son.

For uncle Charlus's sake I'm being very discrete because he's upset, but no one's gonna try to make me go to the funeral are they?

Private to Sirius.

Lestrange? How in fuck did anyone manage that???

Also, the mirror? BRILL!

Then get a new pair of glasses.

I've never had to pick out a pair by myself before. Either mum or Lil someone else told me what looked right.

It cannot be that difficult.

It is! Because they make you try on glasses with fake lenses in them. So you can't see what you look like unless you're only four inches away from the mirror and when you're that close you can't see the effect of your whole face.

I am certain you can manage.

Did you sit on them again?

James.

Dude, I have no idea. I was half expecting someone to tell me he was two midgets in a coat after all.

Look, I've got to see you. I had the most amazing night last night and you have no idea how much I wanted you there. There just has to be a celebration. We have to go for a drink or something.

Actually, I think it's from the last time a dog chewed on them. Stupid mutt.

Pads.

Uncle Charlus is torn up about it, but I can't be arsed to even pretend. He was a mean fucker and I'm glad he's dead. He's got family to carry on his name. His line'll be allright.

And yeah, I want to see you too! Tonight or tomorrow. You pick! We've just got to... you know... keep it quiet and all.

You have a dog? Should I be jealous?

James.

Yeah, not for long he fucking doesn't, mate. I'm not going to be happy until I see the name driven into extinction.

I know, I know. Tomorrow at lunchtime, I'll get a couple of drinks and we can sit just have a laugh. Might bring Temperance as you're cheating on her.

No, I'm talking about the dog I used to have. I'm sure you remember him. Black, shed all the times, licked himself constantly.

Pads.

It's a bad thing for a name to die out completely, but let's not argue. I'm glad he's dead, you're glad he's dead, and some night really late maybe we can sneak off and piss on his grave.

And tomorrow lunchtime works for me. It's the weekend so I don't need to be at the centre for anything. Were you thinking any place in particular?

Oh that dog. No, it hasn't been near your glasses, it hangs out down at Godrics Hollow. I think you sat on them and you can't blame it on me putting them on because I haven't knicked your glasses in nigh on two months. I'm in withdrawal.

James.

Yes, please, breed more arseholes so they can drive me insane. I thought you wanted me to be happy. I'll be happy when that line dies. Don't argue with me, I'm your best friend and I know what's best. Besides, anything that annoys Bellatrix gives me a happy, warm feeling.

You get weekends off? Slacker. Do you want to go down to Clevedon? It's out of the way, up by where we used to play Quidditch sometimes. Seeing as you're all anti-diner now, I just figured somewhere quiet.

I wish it hadn't run off. Only dog I ever had that would play catch the snitch with me.

Pads.

Whatever makes you happy makes me happy, but we both know Bellatrix isn't going to be popping out any kids. Thank Merlin for that.

And yes, Clevedon sounds brill. Let's meet where we played Quid and then we can go together from there.

You might see it again one day. Dogs are pretty loyal creatures.

Prongs.

Now if Lestrange junior would just be a girl, I'd feel set.

Bellatrix as a mother. The only thing worse than my own.

Sounds great!

Unless your uncle requires your presence, I cannot imagine that anyone would force you to attend. And I suppose I would be hard-pressed to feel bad about the death of some one who had tried to kill me, so that may be a natural reaction.

I've made a list of people who have tried to kill me but some of them I don't mind as much as others.

You never tried to kill me did you?

I'm pretty certain that shops with glasses in them probably also have helpful sales clerks.

Helpful sales clerks who work on commission and only want to sell you whatever will make them the most money, regardless of if you look like a ponce.

Some of us aren't naturally greasy enough to scare the blokes away.

Haven't you ever heard that if you can't be nice you should shut the fuck up?

No. If you weren't being rude then what were you trying to say? I'm curious. I can't imagine any way it would have been taken politely but I am more than willing to give you the benefit of the doubt.

These have been a trying few days.

They have been and I apologise. I didn't really intend rudeness.

I'm not certain there is anyway to say what I was going to say and still sound half manly so forget it. The intention was not rude though.

I was just going to say that you're good looking enough that you shouldn't have to worry about it. Women just like you.

That's all.

And now if you'll excuse me I need a drink.

I second the drink if I can find any around the house. Uncle Charlus seems intent on drowning himself.

Purist or not, I can't be arsed that Lestrange is dead. Gaius said that it's okay not to like the people who have tried to kill me. I think that's fair.

No it's fair certainly. I tend to feel the same about people who have tried to kill me.

He arranged my marriage. And he gave me more opportunities than I can count with the Library. He was good to me. I can't help but care some.

I've been making a list of the people I think have tried to kill me, but it's tricky with the masks.

Gaius is a Death Eater, yeah? I mean, I assume, because when Uncle Charlus talks about him it seems like he's talking in some kind of code meant for the mentally deficient or something.

I know Reggie tried, but he's dead. You tried, but I'm willing to look past it, Frenchy tried, I'm pretty sure Bellatrix tried. I think that's it. Mulciber is suspect but since I think all his poor behaviour is based on his inability to get in Mary's panties I'm going to overlook that one too.

Have I missed anyone?

Death eaters are certainly not mentally defficient. I don't know if I should say one way or another if Gaius hasn't said himself but your guess is reasonably accurate.

Thank Merlin I'm not the only one who thinks Demetrius just wants in MacDonald's knickers. Seriously. I'm so tired of being told that I'm the crazy one for thinking that.

Believe it or not I have not idea who has tried to kill you Potter. We don't precisely share notes after every battle. And really I wouldn't say I've actually tried to kill you.

Did you find somehing to drink?

(Reply to this) (Parent) (Thread)

[info]jamesopotter
2009-08-01 04:56 am UTC (link)
I think it is too. And I know now it doesn't mean he's a bad bloke. He's been nothing but nice to me and some things are worth fighting for I guess. Doesn't matter one way or the other.

You aren't crazy. I wouldn't be surprised to find her murdered, stuffed and mummified in his closet some day. Even the way he writes to her. It borders on those letters they publish in muggle porn mags.

And yeah, I guess I do believe it. S'probably all the same anyway. Guess I'll just hold a grudge against the Lestranges and let it be at that. Though it's hard to believe you haven't tried to kill me. I feel like I remember you trying to kill me. But maybe not. Some things are fuzzy.

In case you can't tell, no, I have yet to find any alcohol. Mum had the elves take what I had out of my room and Uncle Charlus is nursing the rest. Selfish prat.

I thought house elves were there to do what you tell them. You're going to get an owl in a minute.

Well I think in general there was a lot if attempted pain and humiliation in school. And I can say that there have been times I'd have rathered you were dead. I guess honestly no one particularly likes killing. Well I don't think most people do - Marius Lestrange might be an exception - if I don't have to I'm not going to. I think most of us are the same.

And being a Death Eater doesn't make you a bad person any more than it makes you a good one. Groups are made up of both kinds in my experience. And good people sometimes do shitty things and bad ones can be hugely kind or generous. People are complicated. Their motivations are complicated. That's just life. I think it took a while to grow up enough to see that though.
